2017 Mercedes GLS450 left headlamp, with night vision and curve illumination.
Update: I’m done overhauling the headlamp, had to transfer a pair of control modules at $478 and $296 each. They’re not included with the lamp, which lists at $2360.
The kicker is Mercedes built the lamp so the Xenon bulb isn’t serviceable. Need a bulb? Gotta buy and install an entire lamp assembly.

For retail to customer, meaning purchase at a dealer as a replacement, I’m guessing $2200.

Close, it lists at $2360, but you need to reuse your $478 xenon control module and $296 light range adjuster module.

Mercedes is the only winner :)
Lamp lists at $2360, but needs another $800 in control modules if originals were damaged as well.

That might buy the bulb, if they sold it separately, but they don’t. Lamp is $2360, and according to my system, if the bulb fails you need an entire new headlamp.

2200 was my guess, only because my dad was talking about a new headlight they’re working on for GM, that is completely enclosed assembly (non serviceable) with LEDs, and that each headlight price was around 225 to the OEM. Usually replacement parts from the dealer are 10x piece price from the supplier.

The worst part is the Xenon bulb isn’t serviced separately. Bulb dies? Buy new headlamp (ouch).

Haha, that’s actually really smart.
The law, at least in Virginia, is no “unfiltered” light, meaning even if the bulb works, you can’t have a broken lens.
They’ve got color-correct “filtering” on the lights...

Yep, granted I’m old (lol inflation) and cheap/poor, but my first two cars combined didn’t cost that much.
Hell, that headlamp is over 1/4 of my annual mortgage expense.

I thought so too, but the parts diagram lists a Xenon bulb, and one of the modules I had to swap was a xenon controller.
I’m guessing it uses Xenon for road lamp, and LED for marker, signal, etc. There’s literally no access to any bulbs in the lamp anywhere. I can’t even find the damned xenon bulb inside the thing.

Wow, your legislation seems pretty easy on such things.
If you were driving around like this here, you would be stopped, would probably get a fine, and be ordered to appear at the police station with a fixed headlight a few days later

It’s shit like this that needs to be called out for it’s environmental impact. What’s the environmental cost of your headlight burning out? Oh, just 5lbs of plastic and half a ton of carbon emissions. Slow clap, Mercedes, slow clap.

Sounds about right....I went to get original matching black lugnuts to match a set of Camaro wheels at the dealer because I didnt want to wait to order a set for $30 online.
The dealer quotes $20. I said “Great”! Then they said that price was for
each nut!

My headlamp cluster says “Mercedes Benz Intelligent LED” stamped in small letters in the corner, since it’s an LED cluster. It’s interesting that the beam lens almost looks exactly the same.

10x is a rough standard at least, for estimating what a person pays for parts at the dealer vs what the OEM pays for piece price from the supplier

I’m actually going to dissect the old lamp once the repairs are complete just to see what “lighting” elements are actually in there. It lists a bulb and a xenon controller, and the part number off of one of the control modules matched the xenon controller number, but I’ll be damned if I could find the bulb through the access hole.

IIRC these lights had a cornering lamp. Maybe that’s the xenon lamp? The low and high beams should be LEDs.

I bet they’re cheaper than the Swarovski S class headlamp! The Mercedes dealer I worked at got a first edition S550 coupe which promptly hit a deer within a few months. I don’t remember the exact price, but I think it was around 5k for the headlamp. It also need a new grill and radar cruise control sensor under the Benz logo. The customer also had a custom radar detector installer which had to be replaced. It was not a cheap repair for a simple deer hit.
